EXPERIENCE TRADITIONAL KOREAN COSTUMES AND CUISINE
On February 27, 2024, at the HungHau Campus (13E Nguyen Van Linh), the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Van Hien University organized a workshop on cultural experience: Rituals and Customs of Korean Holidays, under the theme: "The Beauty of Traditional Korean Culture". With the aim of providing students majoring in Korean Studies - the Faculty of Oriental Studies with additional knowledge about traditional Korean culture, as well as helping them experience and immerse themselves in Korean culture, the event was an opportunity for students to practice and enhance their Korean language skills.
During the program, students were introduced by Mr. Jung Hye Gyung and Mr. Beak Myeong Jin to the history of the formation of the Hanbok culture - the traditional attire of Koreans, and the proper way to wear Hanbok. Students also had the chance to engage in practical exercises of New Year's greetings and wedding ceremonies in Hanbok attire.
Moreover, students experienced hands-on activities in making various types of Tteok cakes for Coming-of-Age Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Tteok cakes are a traditional food deeply rooted in the daily life of Koreans. It are considered a favorite dish of Koreans, who believe it brings good luck. Therefore, during national holidays and festivals, this type of cake is indispensable.
In addition, students had the opportunity to experience traditional Korean folk games, especially the paper flipping game (딱지치기/Takji Chigi) - a traditional game of Korea that has been passed down since the Joseon Dynasty.
